CUE's first application will be inside the 2012 Cadillac XTS, followed shortly thereafter by the ATS and SRX, with every model in the Caddy line-up getting the system by 2015. With that level of adoption, Cadillac has to back it up with some serious hardware, and the bits behind the dash don't disappoint. A three-core, ARM 11 processor that's nearly four-times more powerful than other systems on the market is sure to make tech geeks happy, particularly when it runs a modified version of Linux. The trio of cores – each offering up some 400 MIPS – are tasked with handling both the eight-inch capacitive touchscreen mounted in the center console and the 12.3-inch customizable display behind the steering wheel, with two of the cores adapting to handle voice instructions on the fly. Cadillac is already talking about bringing third-party developers into the mix, and by basing much of the system on Java and HTML5, creating custom-tailored apps or adapting existing programs for CUE should be easy and quick.

Not much has changed in Cadillac’s new 2011 DTS sedan. Cadillac has tried to modernize their line of full size sedans over the years. However, the line has pretty much stayed the same for the past few years.
This vehicle offers modern comforts commonly associated with this price range. It has a fantastically plush ride, and an extremely quiet cabin. We must also say, even though the sedan hasn’t changed much, it still offers very clean and luxurious styling. The passenger cabin is also extremely roomy, despite looking fairly small on the outside. The car even carries a big V8 standard with a four-speed automatic transmission.
This car is a solid contender for people wanting a full-size luxury car born out of American soil. However, there are some things to consider before purchasing it.
The car comes with four trim levels. These are Basic, Luxury, Premium, and Platinum. The standard model comes from the factory with 17-inch wheels, front foglights, sepearte climate control for passenger and driver, Bluetooth, an eight-speaker stereo system, OnStar free for 12 months, remote engine start, and xenon headlights.
If you move up to the Luxury model, you receive chrome wheels, parking assist, three separate climate control zones, heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats, driver’s seat memory settings, and an auto-dimming mirror on the driver’s side.
If you decide to go for the Premium model, you get to indulge in a new style grille, power front seats with massagers built in, burled walnut accents in the interior, a wood-trimmed steering wheel, a built-in navigation system, and telescopic steering.

Driveways around the country are filled with neighbors swapping prideful mile-per-gallon figures instead of Junior's latest little league stats. Yet we fear that the term "green" gets tossed around far too easily these days. We see hybrids and electrics all around us, but most aren't designed to compete against the green yardstick that is the Toyota Prius.
The 2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, for example, relies on similar tech, yet it's effectively the Toyota's polar opposite.
Possessing the elegant style of a fashionable fat kid, the Escalade Hybrid manages to produce brutish noises and surprising bursts of speed. An expensive eight-passenger luxury barge, this full-size hybrid SUV could easily be dismissed as an overpriced dinosaur – especially as it has been getting a bit long-in-the-tooth while the competition has continued to evolve. Fans and enthusiasts of the conventional manual gearbox have likely lost another round in the battle being waged by automakers to phase out the clutch pedal in more and more cars. The latest casualty is the
2012 Cadillac CTS, which in 3.6-liter V-6 guise is said to be no longer offering a six-speed manual transmission as an option.
With the 2011 CTS Sedan and Coupe, customers buying the rear-wheel drive 3.6-liter model in Performance or Premium trims could opt for a manual transmission. For 2012, the same trim levels will most likely be offered exclusively with a six-speed automatic.
The V-8 powered CTS-V variants, however, should still get the manual option, as should the base 3.0-liter CTS range.
The change has most likely been spurred on from low demand for this option in previous model years.
Other changes in store for the 2012 Cadillac CTS will be minor, with only a car grille and other minor styling revisions making the cut.

Cadillac has just announced a new, more powerful version of its 2012 Cadillac SRX mid-size crossover SUV, which now benefits vigor 3.6-liters direct-injected V6 engine with 300 horsepower.
Offering even faster acceleration that the current 3.0-liters V6 powered SRX, the new, 2012 Cadillac SRX is expected to hit the automaker’s dealerships this summer.
Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac marketing, shares: “SRX is resonating with luxury buyers by offering the function of a crossover and the distinctive style of a Cadillac. Now, we’re raising the standards even higher by providing the SRX with enhanced performance. The new engine will make the SRX more responsive for passing on the highway, entering freeways from on-ramps and climbing hills.”
Besides its more horses, the new 3.6-liters direct-injected V6 plant also boasts FlexFuel capability and wider rpm range for its maximum torque, which gives the driver more power across a wider range of speeds and driving conditions.

My, how things have changes: Consider that the 2000 Escalade is credited with helping save Cadillac from certain disaster. Now that vehicle is somewhat of a pariah. Small is the new big, and that's the direction GM is going with their 2010 Cadillac SRX, which will land in dealers this spring. The new, smaller mid-size crossover is no longer built on the CTS's rear-drive Sigma architecture, nor will it offer V-8 power, but it promises to be a better crossover and a better Cadillac.
Regarding styling, the 2010 Cadillac SRX is a huge improvement over the outgoing model, a vehicle that looked too tall and long for its narrow width. The new SRX is more than six inches shorter and two inches wider than the outgoing model. Importantly, there's less front and rear overhang. This combination helps tighten up the crossover's proportions.

Vertically stacked headlights and trapezoidal chrome grille give the SRX a Cadillac family look without it looking cookie cutter. The dramatic side sections out-RX's Lexus's popular RX in terms of style. A powerful character line beginning at the trailing edge of the front wheel well culminates at the taillight lens. These lens looks to be vestigial tailfins, but unlike the fins of the 1950s, this design actually help aerodynamically by breaking the airflow from the body. An integrated spoiler on the rearward edge of the roof extends the sleek lines and improves aerodynamics. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard and 20-inch wheels are offered. We're not so crazy about the side vents.

When it comes to American luxury, Cadillac is the torch bearer. In existence for over a century, Cadillac has been at the heart of the auto industry since its arrival. Founded by Henry Martyn Leland, a producer of automotive parts, the first model under the Cadillac name was the Osceola, a limited production concept car. But the Osceola is credited with helping ignite the popularity of closed-body cars, essentially changing the face of automobiles in the United States. GM purchased the company in 1909 and quickly was designated as the luxury division for the company. Power and class were the Cadillac specialty, as the brand was the first US automaker to develop a V8 engine.

Cadillac models were known for their "tail fins". The tailfins were an idea that came about as the result of aircrafts such as the Lockheed P38.

Chrome was also employed on post-WWII models, yet another styling cue that separated Cadillac from the rest of the competition. The Coupe DeVille and Fleetwood El Dorado were two of the most popular luxury cars around. Cadillac received excellent free advertising from both of them since many athletes and actors could be seen driving these cars. Vertical tail lights made their way into the picture come the 1960s, further boosting Cadillac's image for fashion. The arrival of the Fleetwood Sixty Special was a flagship for luxury, offering footrests and a telescoped steering wheel. In 1975, the Seville made its debut. Complete with electronic fuel injection, the Seville helped save Cadillac from the fuel crisis that beat up the auto industry. After slumping throughout most of the late eighties/early nineties, Cadillac became rejuvenated on the back of their Art & Science campaign.

LORRY DRIVER JAILED OVER 'DEVASTATING' CRASH

A HULL lorry driver who killed three people when he caused a six-vehicle pile-up on a motorway in East Yorkshire has been jailed for four years.Toppers truck.

Leslie Abel, 55, of Sleights Close, caused a "scene of utter devastation" when he ploughed his Scania heavy goods vehicle into slow-moving cars on the slip road between the M62 and M18 motorways, near Rawcliffe, in October last year.

Jane Parkhouse, 36, and her nephew Stephen Parkhouse, 17, both from Bridlington, died at the scene of the accident when the lorry crashed into the back of their Vauxhall Cavalier at 56mph.

David Goodridge, 52, from Retford, Nottinghamshire, who was driving a Honda CRV at the time of the crash, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where he later died from his injuries.

Several other people received minor injuries.

Abel, who had been a lorry driver for 20 years, said he had no recollection of the accident, which happened in a tail-back of traffic caused by roadworks and an earlier incident.

Simon Waley, prosecuting, told Hull Crown Court: "The defendant said all he remembered was seeing the back of a car, dust and devastation and cars being shunted to one side."

Sentencing Abel, Judge John Reddihough said: "You caused a scene of utter devastation which must have been upsetting to all that had to view it."

The judge added: "The long and short of it is you drove along this section of road, which you knew already, you set your cruise control to 56 miles per hour and you ended up ploughing at that speed into the vehicles ahead of you, with those devastating results."

Michael Scholes, defending, said Abel, who pleaded guilty to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing, was "utterly contrite and genuinely remorseful".

The focus of the interior is the “MINI Centre Globe” which is installed in the place of where you’d typically expect the giant speedometer to be. The 3D sphere uses laser projection to display two different views if viewed from different positions. This allows the front passenger and front driver to view different displays from the same MINI Centre Globe.

It’s quite obvious that BMW ConnectedDrive will come to the MINI brand soon enough because the press release also indicates the ability for the front passenger to surf the web from the MINI Centre Globe display, and ease of data input is facilitated by a keyboard that can slide out from the front dashboard on the passenger side. Steering-wheel controls typically use buttons or scrollwheels but in the MINI Crossover Concept, a trackball is used.

The starter system gimmick is also integrated into the MINI Centre Globe. Instead of a keyfob, a Keyball is used. The Keyball is inserted into an opening in the upper edge of the globe. It will then roll down towards the driver along the middle of the globe.

The driver can then press the Keyball to start the engine. When the engine needs to be turned off, the ball is pressed again and it will then roll down into its housing bay where it can be removed.

At first glance the little hatch above may look like the Infiniti FX. It is actually BMW MINI’s third variant in its line-up of “New MINIs” and it will be an all-wheel drive type of vehicle.

MINI will be previewing the upcoming MINI crossover “softroader” SUV (reportedly going to be called the “Crossman”) at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.

The MINI Crossover Concept rides on a 2606mm wheelbase (longer than the Cooper’s 2466mm and Clubman’s 2547.6mm) and has a conventional four doors with two on each side of the car. The driver’s side has no B-pillar so that particular door is of a sliding type that slides to the rear to open. The rear hatch once again opens with a split in the middle, so I suppose you could call this a 6-door hatchback?

Mercedes-Benz has revealed details of its astonishingly quick McLaren 722S Roadster, the car named in tribute to the Mercedes-Benz Roadster that Sir Stirling Moss drove to victory in the final Mille Miglia road race in Italy back in the 1950s.

Delivering 478kW, acceleration from 0-to-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a maximum speed of 335km/h, this two-seater cabriolet, according to Mercedes-Benz, surpasses the existing benchmark among open-top super sports cars – the SLR McLaren Roadster. In addition to increased power, the new SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S features even more dynamic suspension tuning and improved aerodynamics.

At the heart of the SLR Roadster 722 S is a powerful supercharged 5.5-litre, V8-engine, which is hand-built in the Mercedes-AMG engine shop in Affalterbach. The special strengths of this high-performance engine include extraordinary responsiveness to movements of the accelerator, a high torque and an unmistakable V8 sound. The maximum speed is 335km/h, which Mercedes-Benz claims is unrivalled by any other series-production roadster.

John Cooper Works Mini has major attitude

When it comes to performance driving, weight is enemy Number 1. Similarly, if you're trying to squeeze every rolling metre out of a litre of fuel, too much junk in the trunk is not the way to go.

Following this line of reason, a lightweight car with a highly tuned small displacement engine is a formula for fun and efficient motoring – and it leaves a small footprint in a congested city.

Checking all these boxes is the 2009 John Cooper Works Mini – a Mini Cooper S coupe with a serious injection of oats. The 1.6 L DOHC turbo-charged four is tuned to crank out 208 horsepower and 192 lb.-ft. of torque from 1850-5600 rpm, up 36 and 15 respectively from the Cooper S. Put your foot in it, and there is an overboost function too that momentarily kicks the torque up to 207 lb.-ft. This, in a 1,225 kg car.

Of course "Mini" and "John Cooper" are synonymous with diminutive giant killers, as the legendary Mini Cooper and Cooper S of the 1960s, tuned for BMC by Mr. Cooper, proved to be formidable rally competitors. I know of what I speak. My first car was a '68 Mini Cooper, and although the only thing holding it together was the rust, it was one hell of an entertaining shoebox.

Ditto for this German/British descendent, born as it is 41 years later. Truth be told, the 2009 JC Works Mini would chew up my old Cooper for breakfast and spit it out in small, ferrous pieces. This car is very quick. Deceptively so in fact, so it's a good thing the central speedo is the size of a manhole cover. "Street Racing" velocities sneak up on you in the blink of an eye.

How many times has the Mini's handling been compared to a go-kart? Enough for me to visit a couple of kart-racer buddies who were doing some testing at Goodwood Kartways. They thought the car was a hoot, and confirmed its dynamics were somewhat akin to their high-powered karts.

Thanks to some bespoke suspension tuning and sticky 205/45R17 Continental ContiSportContact footwear, the Mini's already quick reflexes are notched up to Chihuahua-on-amphetamine levels here. Turn-in is crazy quick and the upgraded Works brakes require a light touch. With the Sport button on the console engaged, throttle response sharpens too. It takes a little while to recalibrate your inputs to drive this car smoothly.

One thing you can't smooth out is the ride – on rough roads you'll think you're sitting in a paint shaker. However, when lasering through bends and feeling the neutrality in the chassis (you can actually coax some oversteer out of it), all is forgiven. I can't remember ever getting to apply a little opposite lock in a front drive car. Now that's entertainment folks!

On the flip side, this car settles into a comfortable cruiser at 120 km/h with the little turbo four humming away at 2800 rpm. My tester had a lovely tan leather interior and the $1,900 JCW Comfort Package that includes a large double sunroof, heated front seats, automatic climate control, rain sensing wipers and auto headlights. The $750 audio upgrade sounded very good too. Fit and finish are exemplary. It's your call whether the interior design is super-cool chic or Fisher-Price gone horribly wrong.

Externally, the JC Works Mini gets a more aggressive front fascia with unique grill inserts, 16-spoke lightweight alloys, a large rear spoiler, and a pair of honkin' chrome exhaust tips. They broadcast a pretty sexy bark too, along with a charming repertoire of pops and farts on overrun.

Yes, the 2009 JC Works Mini might be as cute as a puppy, but beware, it pulls like one too. Saab Viggen, please step aside. We now have the new poster child for torque steer. Hammer the throttle in second gear and you're fighting to keep on the straight and narrow. Do the same at 100 km/h in third gear and it will still try to yank you into the corn.

All part of the fun, I guess. The 2009 JC Works Mini is nothing if not hugely entertaining. In this time of the auto morphing into a safe, competent and comfortable entity, it's refreshing to jump into a rip-snorting tinder-box that grabs you by the cojones and begs to be thrashed. If you're bored in this car, you might be dead.

All this fun comes with a price, however. The 2009 JC Works Mini lists for $38,390, with this specimen coming in at an eye-watering $42,020. There is also a JC Works Clubman for $39,990.

Comfort can be taken in the fact that the mutual thrashing between myself and JCWM burned only 9.1 L/100 km of premium fuel.

Tough but elegant Land Rover LR3 handles all you throw at it

Not every vehicle test drive is a joy. sometimes it's just work; not because the vehicle isn't fun, or nice or elegant, but because no one's life is always in the fast lane.

When Land Rover loaned me the 2009 LR3, a big SUV that sits high on the road, I dreamed of African safaris.

These are the rugged vehicles people use to cross impossible terrain. I've driven a few Land Rovers down wickedly steep hills with its awesome Hill Descent Control feature turned on, letting the truck glide me down a hill at 3 mph.

But this time, I needed something to help move my father, cobbled by surgery, into my house, and my exotic journey would take me no more than a few miles away to a storage unit across perilous potholes and a gravel road off of Jefferson Avenue. Not exactly the Sahara.

But you don't need to cross a continent to measure a vehicle's worth.

Life has more weekend moves than trekking up sand dunes. And my first hundred miles may have been accomplished with a dozen trips of loading and unloading -- but at the end of the day, that made me appreciate the LR3 even more.

Sometimes we need a vehicle that can ford a river or pull an elephant out of a mud bog, but during my Land Rover test, I needed the 90 cubic feet of storage available with the second- and third-row seats folded down.

The loading space isn't completely flat, but it was roomy enough to fit nearly everything from an apartment but the mattress and box springs.

Even with the driver's seat pushed forward to accommodate a particularly big dresser, I was comfortable driving the LR3. The high ride gives you a commanding position on the road, and the flat surfaces around you -- such as the window controls, center console and top of the dash -- seem to fit the rugged appeal of this SUV.

The easy-to-use Terrain Response system lets you select the type of surface you'll drive over, and computers adjust a number of things such as the throttle response, shift points and center differential's operation. I never moved the selector off of Tarmac, but I could have just as easily moved everything in snow or sand or gavel.

The beauty of Land Rover is its ability to combine tough with posh. If it were a sport, it would be rug, given its British pedigree, raw power and finesse touches.

Some people may tie a dead carcass to the hood of their LR3, but they'll get a manicure as soon as they return to civilization.

The amenities in the LR3 are excellent. The well-crafted walnut wood trim and new almond leather interior (with Nutmeg carpet) look astonishing and they're all new for 2009 LR3s.

During the move, I cranked Muddy Waters over the 240-watt Harman/kardon stereo. It tested the surround sound and the Blues seemed appropriate. The only thing I longed for was a push button start, but no doubt, that will eventually come.

Land Rover didn't change the delicious 4.4-liter V-8 under the hood, which pulls the SUV around with 330 horsepower. For on-road driving, it's more than plenty; for off-roading, it gives you that extra oomph. As for hauling a man's worldly possessions around, it had more than enough power. The gas mileage, however, was a sad 13 miles per gallon.

The mid-size SUV's tall sides do make the body sway some in turns, but during the first 100 miles, I never opened her up to find out how much it would roll.

That upright stance, raised rear roof and clamshell hood give the LR3 a distinctive Land Rover look. The flat windshield and slab sides add to its appearance and make it easy to find in the concrete jungle of a parking lot.

With its 19-inch standard aluminum wheels and a body-colored bumper, the LR3 is certainly out of the ordinary.

Perhaps the most surprising thing I noticed during the move was how quickly the LR3 became comfortable. Despite its big size (it's over 190 inches long), it was easy to maneuver in forward or reverse.

Life moves in both directions as well, so it was nice to have a vehicle capable, tough and elegant to make the ride just a little easier.
